Window Lighting Effects
By: RaZoR - DDGFX.com

With this tutorial we are going to learn how to add special lighting effects to windows of a dark room. This particular technique can be used in various different situations.

Final Result:

Step 1
To begin, open your document that you wish to add these effect to. We will use this scene for this tutorial.

Step 2
Create a new layer on top of your current document.

Prepare your image for lighting by using a soft brush to "dot" in window areas using a white color (#FFFFFF). For this tutorial we used a 45px soft brush for the smaller windows, and 100px soft brush for the larger windows. Set your brush opacity to about 80%.

Step 3

Once that has been completed, switch to your smudge tool.

Set your smudge tool size settings to suite the sizes used in step 2 in your Windows > Brushes menu. You need not select any of the other options. Set your smudge tool brush opacity to about 80%

Step 4
Now begin to smudge your window "dots" at a downward angle to give it the lighting effect. Repeat this for all of the windows. You may have to do this several times until you get something that you like.

Step 5
Now set your layer that was used for the lighting to about 50% opacity or something that you like.

Create a new layer, and with a soft brush at about 80% opacity, brush the areas on the ground below the lighting, to reflect the lighting coming through the windows.

Once this is done, set that layer to about 60% opacity, or whatever you like.

You now has some great special lighting effects!
