Create a series of blades with a mystical motion trail.
End Result
-----------------------------
1. Create a new image, make sure it's square. I use 800x800px.
2. Create a new layer, and fill it with black, or I prefer the DDGFX standard #232D35
3. Add a new layer on top of the BG, titled White Blade and drag guides 100px from all sides, making a 600px square.

*Make sure the rulers are on, and set to px measurements, for all the effects to work correctly, it is important the image is centered*
4. Grab the eliptical marquee tool, and holding shift draw a circle that snaps to all the guides. Fill this selection with white.

5. Deselect the layer, but leave the guides in for now.
6. Lets make our middle mount hole first, you can do this however you wish, as long as it's centered, another pair of guides will help.
7. Make sure after your center hole is made, you leave the cross guides in the center, these again are important.

8. Now, we have to decide what shape our object will be. I will use a rounded blade shape, hence the Mystic Blade title.
9. Using the eliptical marquee to create our cutout shape, and guides to keep everything equal, draw a path for the cutout.
10. We need this selection for four different cuts, so make a new layer, and fill it with something.

11. Now, without deselcting, click the White Blade layer, and hit delete
12. Now deselect, go to EDIT - TRANSFORM - ROTATE 90 CW
13. Reselect the circle and delete again, do this two more times until you have completed a 360 degree edit.

14. Now we can delete the guide circle layer, and focus on the blade shape itself. Leave the outer guides, and the center cross guides.
15. Create a new layer, titled Blue Blade and once again draw the 600px circle with the marquee. Then go to SELECT - MODIFY - CONTRACT - 10px.
16. Fill this selection with any color you wish. (It may change later)
17. Deselect, then CTRL+CLICK the White Blade layer, go to SELECT - INVERSE, delete.
18. The edges are rough, but we'll fix that. Now lets add some depth, and texture.
19. Select the White Blade layer, and add a small outer glow with these settings:

20. Now select the Blue Blade layer, and we'll make this thing pretty.
21. Drag a selection over the center area, hit CTRL+C, DELETE, CTRL+V, and center this on the image. Title it Blue Center.
22. You should now have 4 layers including the BG.
23. Select the White Blade Layer, and add an Outer Glow with these settings:

24. Select the Blue Blade layer, and add these effects with settings:
* Inner Shadow

* Bevel - Be sure the contour box is selected

*Gradient Overlay

*Pattern Overlay

25. Add a new layer above the Blue Blade layer, called Blade Stroke. With this layer selected, CTRL+CLICK the Blue Blade layer, go to EDIT - Stroke - 2px - BLACK. Deselect, then FILTER - BLUR - GAUSSIAN BLUR - 1px.
26. Click the Blue Center layer, and add these effects and settings:
*Bevel

*Gradient Overlay

*Pattern Overlay

27. Add a new layer above the Blue Center layer, titled Center Stroke, and create the same stroke as we did for the blades.
28. Create a new layer directly above the White Blade layer named Links. Reset the colors pallette, so the top color is black.
29. Using the Line Tool, draw two lines, forming an X, using the outside 600px guide corners as reference.
30. Rasterize the two lines, and merge them together, so they become the Links Layer.
31. Add these settings:
*Outer GLow

*Bevel

* Gradient Overlay

32. Now, click the eye next the the BG layer, and make it invisible. Then merge all the layers using the Merge Visible option.
33. Rename this layer if you need to. Call it Blades. Add a new layer under that titled Trails. Make the BG layer visible once again.
34. Make the Trails Layer active, and CTRL+CLICK the Blades Layer. Fill the selection with a nice blue color.
35. FILTER - STYLIZE - WIND - FROM RIGHT
36. FILTER - BLUR - RADIAL BLUR - 16 px. - SPIN - BEST
37. Now rotate the layer so that it looks like it's lined up correctly with the Blades Layer.
38. Make a new layer above the Blades. Call it Edges.
39. Once again create a 600px circle with the marquee. Fill it with a grey color. With it still selected, go to SELECT - MODIFY -CONTRACT - 5px. Delete.
40. Add these settings:
*Bevel - Be sure the Texture box is selected.

Congrats!

Now do what you like with it.
