Book - Create a open spiral note book.
Introduction: In this tutorial I will teach you how using Adobe Photoshop you can create an open spiral not book.

Step1: Creating the holes and book shape.

Create a new image using the dimension  800 x 600. Set the background color to #dbdbdb. You can change the background depending on what you want to do.

Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool ,create the rectangle below, and fill the image using the Paint Bucket with this color #5a87a8. Again, you can change this color depending on what you want.

Click on the Zoom Tool and zoom into the rectangle once. Click View Rulers to turn the rulers on. This will help you to line up the page holes. Click and hold on the ruler on the left hand side of the page and drag a line over your rectangle as shown in the image below.

Now click on the Elliptical Marquee Tool using the setting below create a circle in between the two ruler lines you created above.

If you did that correct you should have something shown in the image below.

With that, selection selected press the delete key to delete the selection creating a hole. Now just repeat this until you have holes going down the paper. You should have the effect below.

Step2: Creating book.

Duplicate the previous layer, Layer Duplicate Layer. Using the Chop Tool right click on the layer image just duplicated and click Free Transform. The window below should come up; change the width from 100.0% to -100.0% this will flip the image around. When you are finished, press Enter to apply the setting.

Position the two images as shown below.

Right click on one of the image layer above and click Blending Option, we need to add a little shadow on the book cover. Apply the settings below.

Repeat this for the other cover, with that you should have the effect below.

Step3: Creating the spirals.

Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Use the Rectangular Marquee Tool create the rectangle and position it as shown below.

You can zoom into your image to get a better view, Click on the Gradient Tool create the gradient below.

Apply the gradient to the selection going from Left to Right

and you will get the effect below.

Right click on the Gradient Layer. click Blending Option, and apply the settings below.

Outer Glow

Inner Glow

Click ok, to apply the settings.

Your image should look like the screenshot below.

Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). Click on the Brush Tool make sure the brush color is black, using the setting below

add the brush effect to the ends of the gradient to get the effect below.

Step4: Add the shadow to the spiral.

Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N).  Click on the Brush Tool make sure the brush color is black set the brush size to 5 Pixels. Click on the Pen Tool and draw the path shown below.

After you drew the path, right click on the path and click on stroke path using the Brush.

With that, you should have the effect below. Just right click on the path and click Delete Path this will get rid of the path selection.

On the layer window change the Opacity to 20%, this will lighten the shadow effect.

At this point, your image should look like the screenshot below

Hold Ctrl and Click on all of the layer except the background layer, and the two book cover layer and press Ctrl+E to merge them. This will make it easy to duplicate. Now duplicate the layer and place it in each of the holes to get the effect below.

Step5: Adding Pages to you book.

Click back the book cover layer, Hold Ctrl and click on the layer picture to select it, as shown below.

Using the Rectangular Marquee Tool cut out the ends on the selection as shown below

Create a new layer, LayerNew Layer... (Shift+Ctrl+N). And fill the selection using the Paint Bucket a white color. This layer has to be on top on the book cover layers.
